Mold cooling technology: Rexam acquires Ritemp license

a designer and manufacturer of multicavity injection molds for the consumer packaging, beverage, personal care, healthcare, and food markets, has integrated Ritemp mold cooling technology into some of its engineering processes. Rexam recently partnered with SWM & Assoc. (exclusive representative in the Americas for Ritemp) to identify processing gains and then moved to acquire a development license. SWM Chicago, headed by Terry Schwenk, works directly with tool shops and molders to optimize the entire molding process by reducing production time and operational costs through select technologies like Ritemp.

LONG FIBER COMPOUNDS MOLDING GUIDELINES: Equipment Considerations

A general purpose screw that utilizes a typical three-zone style is best for processing Long Fiber Compounds. The screw has three sections: feed, compression, and metering. Metering should be done with an L/D ratio of 16:1 to 22:1, with a low compression ratio of 2:1 to 2.5:1.

Long Fiber Compounds Molding Guidelines

When processed properly, Long Fiber Compounds retain their fiber length during molding. Correct processing is critical to maintaining high-quality parts; breaking the fibers during processing can result in sharply reduced material properties.

Overmolding Design Considerations

The required adhesion is dependent on the end-use application and environment. Not all overmold grades bond to all substrates. The substrate type determines which RTP Company TPE overmolding grade must be used to achieve the best bond. The end-use environment also influences which grade to select. The expected service life of the product should be considered when establishing adhesion requirements. Initial material selection is the first step.
