General Plastic Components Design Guidelines:Holes

Holes are easily produced in molded parts by core pins. Through holes are easier to produce than blind holes because the core pin can be supported at both ends.

Small Breakthroughs: PDC Enhances Medical Micromachining Capabilities

PDC, of Scottsdale, Arizona, began as a pure engineering service company and relied on outside partners for prototype work. Not satisfied with the quality of prototypes they were receiving, the company started a small in-house tool room to make their own. This evolved into an in-house molding operation, and today the prototype mold making and prototype molding represent the lion’s share of PDC’s business.

Mold Standard

In China, especially in Shenzhen and Dongguan, LKM’s mold bases and standard components are popular. Of course we will obey the your instruction if there are special requirements. The following table is the mold component list.

The Realities of Aluminum Tooling

Using aluminum tooling instead of traditional tools steels reduces cycle time and costs, but requires up-front, open communications between moldmaker, molder, material supplier and hot runner manifold supplier.

Moldmakers and molders looking to find an alternative to traditional tool steels should seriously consider using aluminum. Aluminum tooling offers a myriad of benefits: it is easier to cut and it cools at a much more rapid rate than tool steels, which reduces cycle times—resulting in reduced costs at the OEM level.

The Troubleshooter, Part 107: Tiny TPU plugs

This article continues our series of troubleshooting reports from one of the leading on-the-spot problem solvers in the molding industry.
Part/material: Polyurethane plugs.
Tool: Probably four-cavity, two-plate mold with a heated sprue bushing.
Symptoms/problem: Flow lines, voids, depressions.
Solution: Enlarge feedpoint to the runner and nozzle orifice and remove restriction to flow in that location; gate from the middle, not edge, of the subrunner.
